Philips PM5680 L/11 TV IF Modulator (Philips PM 5680)
Version/02
Commodity exempted from VAT tax.
• High quality TV modulator, more than fulfils standard broadcast specifications.
• Recognized for the extremely low amount of ICPM, featuring high audio S/N of the modulated signal.
• Applicable as IF drive-unit in a TV transmitter or larger cable system, as found e.g. in TV factories.
• Non-linearity corrector option for tetrode or solid state transmitters.
• Optional an RF converter PM 5682 can be inserted in the cabinet of the PM5680.
• Optional sound modulator for the A2 stereo system.
• White clipper and sync stretcher is available on optional basis.
• Available in almost any CCIR specified version.
The PM5680 TV IF modulator comes in versions designed to meet even the most stringent broadcast specifications.
The standard program covers the TV-systems: B/G, M, N, L, D/K and L.
The output signals from the PM 5680 are basically either a combined vision/sound or separated vision and sound IF-signals.
In the cabinet of PM5680 can be inserted either a Non-linearity corrector option or a channel converter PM 5682 (channel must be specified when ordering). The Non-linearity corrector makes the PM 5680 well suited for broadcast applications.
The channel converter-option offers the users a complete IF/RF-modulator and makes the product applicable for TV-laboratories or high quality factory systems.
By its design the PM5680 offers great flexibility to the user: for example the vestigial side band filtering can be specified as an LC-or an LC-SAW-integrated network.
The LC-filter features extremely low passband ripple in amplitude and group delay together with high bandstop attenuation. The LC -version is recommended for PM 5680 applications covering measuring aspects.
The SAW-version is using a SAW filter for the basic VSB-shaping together with an additional LC-network for improvement of the VSB characteristic, group delay and bandstop performance. The SAW-version is generally recommended for application requiring long Time Between Calibration e.g. broadcast transmitters.
Like the PM5672 the PM5680 is applicable as IF-driver for the converter system PM5682/83.
When the instrument is delivered it is set-up for the version ordered. Changing the instrument from one version to another requires component changes and other circuit modifications (see: service manual - programming plugs).
